MEET THE PRODUCER - Ravelle Thomas
Hi, I’m Ravelle Thomas. I’m a Producer and Line Producer with over a decade of international experience across scripted and unscripted film and television, digital, music videos, commercials and more.
I’m Jamaican-born, UK-raised and now based in Toronto. My work has spanned Canada, the UK, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, the US, Europe and Asia, with broadcasters, studios and production companies including BBC, Disney, Apple TV+, ABC/Hulu, Discovery, CBC and Bell Media.
I’ve worked across union and non-union productions, managing budgets, crews, schedules, logistics, international shoots and delivery. I’m usually somewhere between the creative ambition of a project and solving the puzzle of how are we actually going to make this work?
Coming up in this industry, I was the first person in my family and community to step into film and television. I didn’t have a roadmap and, for a long time, I rarely saw people who looked like me behind the scenes, let alone in leadership. I know what it’s like to be the only one in the room and have to figure things out as you go. A lot of what I know came from doing the work, being in the weeds and learning how productions actually run.
I know what makes a good story. I also know what it costs, who you need around it, where the pressure points are and what has to happen to actually deliver it. And for me, it’s not just about what ends up on screen. It matters who is making the work, who is in the room and whether we’ve actually set the production up to succeed.
I’m also the Founder & Executive Producer of Talawa Media, where I’m building original film and television alongside the production experience I’ve spent my career developing.
